Let’s be honest, New Zealand is probably one of the most beautiful places out there – definitely one of my favourites. I finally understand why everyone that’s been there says “you will leave New Zealand changed”. It’s not something that I can describe – or at least describe it and still do it justice, it’s just one of those places that brings out a lot of feelings.
Driving around South Island felt like driving through a post card, I don’t really think there’s a better way to explain how remarkable it looks in every direction. Between the lakes, forests, and winding roads it’s easy to get lost and overwhelmed by the beauty. Living in a city surrounded by mostly flat land, I think the mountains are what took my breath away the most. The mountain ranges seem endless – each more beautiful than the last which made drives that much more exiting!

Driving along the edges of steep cliffs and through mountain passes definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Needless to say, it was a breathtaking experience! Just thinking about driving along the mostly single-lane Highway 6 between Fox Glacier and Queenstown is enough to make wish I was back in NZ. It’s hard – no, actually impossible – to pick a favourite picture from NZ, so I won’t even try, so I’ll just leave a few that I really like from our drive along Lake Wanaka and the Neck. I think our drive lined up perfectly with the sunset that day letting us see the snowy peaks and sublime lakes during twilight. The purple-blue skies along the snow-covered mountain tops was the perfect way to end a long drive!
